Andriy Lunin’s situation at Real Madrid is growing increasingly uncertain by the day.
The Ukrainian star enjoyed a stunning campaign for Los Blancos last season, but the lack of a guaranteed starting spot is forcing him to reconsider his future at the club.
At the moment, Lunin appears closer to leaving than staying. Concurrently, however, Real Madrid are trying their level best to persuade the player to stay but do not appear to be receiving any favours from his entourage.
A strained relationship
As revealed in a recent report from AS, one of the key factors in deciding the goalkeeper’s future is the influence of his agent Jorge Mendes.
The super agent is well known in the Spanish capital as he represents several of football’s elite, but Real Madrid’s strained relationship with Mendes appears to be complicating Lunin’s renewal.
After all, his client Leny Yoro recently snubbed the Merengues in favour of Manchester United despite being the club’s top defensive target.
The departure of another of his client, the young Paulo Iago from La Fabrica has only strained the relationship further.
Capitalising on the high
It is not surprising to see Lunin push for a bigger role in the team given his performances last season. After all, he was the unsung hero for most of last season.
Currently at the peak of his career so far, the youngster does not see it right to play next season as a backup option to Thibaut Courtois. The interest from top clubs across Europe only furthers his case to leave.
As revealed earlier, he is unlikely to continue under Carlo Ancelotti.
