Real Madrid have officially announced the signing of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.
The French international, who will arrive at the club on a free transfer, has signed a five-year contract with the team, keeping him committed to Los Blancos until 2029.
“Real Madrid CF and Kylian Mbappé have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons,” the statement reads.
This announcement marks the end of a lengthy transfer saga that began stirring back in 2022.
At that time, Real Madrid eagerly pursued Mbappe, offering an enticing deal. However, the young forward opted to extend his stay with PSG instead.
Fast forward two years, and after forgoing a substantial loyalty bonus from his former club, Mbappe finally lands in Madrid.
During his time with PSG, he showcased his prowess in over 300 matches, netting an impressive tally of 256 goals, solidifying his status as the club’s leading goal scorer.
Interestingly, despite his star status, Mbappe won’t be the top earner at Real Madrid. The club has opted to maintain parity in pay among players, ensuring Mbappe receives similar compensation to his teammates like Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham.
This marks a significant departure from the lucrative terms offered two years ago, highlighting a shift in the club’s approach.
While the formal announcement has been made, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Mbappe don the Real Madrid jersey in person.
His official presentation is slated to take place after the conclusion of the UEFA Euro, adding to the anticipation surrounding his arrival.
