Real Madrid might be having a terrific season right now, with the La Liga title pretty much in the bag and the Champions League a very real possibility. But that does not mean that there are no areas in need of improvement in this squad. Far from it. In fact, the players and the coaches deserve a lot of credit for what they have been able to achieve considering all the obstacles that they have had to overcome through the course of the campaign.
One area where they will need to make a signing sooner or later is right-back. Dani Carvajal is 32 years of age and while he is still performing at a high level, we all know that Father Time is undefeated.
Real Madrid have been linked with a number of high-profile right-backs in recent times. One of them is Liverpool hero, Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract situation at Anfield is expected to raise the interest of clubs around Europe.
Fabrizio Romano has reiterated Real Madrid’s interest in the situation of Trent. As reported by CaughtOffside, the transfer guru said while speaking for his latest Daily Briefing column:
“Finally, as some fans have asked again about Trent Alexander-Arnold, I’m afraid I have no update in this moment – as I said weeks ago Real Madrid are following the situation but nothing else in terms of talks or contact so far. Let’s see what Liverpool will now do to keep a crucial player for them, a top player.”
Trent has been one of the most highly rated right-backs in the world for years now. There are genuine question marks over the defensive side of his game but when it comes to going forward, he might be one of the best in history in terms of output.
Trent has consistently delivered double-digit assists for many seasons now. He also knows his way to the back of the net as well.
So, someone like Trent could be a good fit for a Real Madrid team, who play on the front foot the majority of the time. Now, it remains to be seen how his contract situation at Liverpool plays out. As things stand, he has a little over a year left on his current deal.
