The club coached by Carlo Ancelotti has four matches left to play, and if they are able to retain two more clean sheets, they would establish a new record for the number of clean sheets they have kept in their history in La Liga.
During the course of this season, Real Madrid has participated in a total of 34 matches, and they have won 27 of those matches while maintaining a clean sheet on 18 times.
In spite of the fact that Francisco Liano and Marc-Andre ter Stegen (26), who are tied for the record for the most clean sheets in a single season, have both achieved this feat, Real Madrid have never been able to surpass the 20-position mark.
To put that into perspective, the squad from the capital of Spain will reach a personal milestone if they are able to maintain a clean sheet in each of their next four matches.
An further record is on the horizon for Real Madrid.
At the Metropolitano, Real Madrid has only suffered a single defeat thus far in this La Liga season, and that defeat came against Atletico de Madrid. Real Madrid’s run has been rather good.
Currently, the squad is working toward the goal of achieving the same level of success that they had during the 1988–1989 season, when they won the league championship with just one defeat during the whole tournament.
Real Madrid went on to win the championship by beating Espanyol by a score of 3-0 two matches before the conclusion of the season. This setback came against Celta Vigo, but Real Madrid still managed to retain their title.
A Copa del Rey triumph was also achieved by the squad when Leo Beenhakker was serving as the coach. This victory marked the team’s fourth straight league championship.
The current Real Madrid team, coached by Carlo Ancelotti, has four matches left to play in order to equal the record set during the 1988–1989 season and finish the league with just one defeat. The teams that they will face in this last stretch of the season are Granada, Alaves, Villarreal, and Betis.
It would be reasonable to conclude that Real Madrid has luck on their side, taking into consideration the list of opponents they face. Not only are they capable of establishing a record for blank sheets, but they also have the ability to end the season with a single loss.
