- Kane scored penalty to put Bayern ahead before Vinicius equalised from the spot
- Three Lions captain reveals what Bellingham said in attempt to put him off
Harry Kane has said that he first learned what Jude Bellingham said to him in an attempt to dissuade him from taking a penalty after the Champions League match against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid on Tuesday night, which ended in a 2-2 tie.
At the Allianz Arena, the first goal scored by Vinicius Junior in the 24th minute gave Los Blancos the lead. However, due to a swift reversal in the second half, Bayern took the lead with the equalizer scored by Leroy Sane and the penalty kick scored by Harry Kane.
Before Kane, the captain of England, went up from the penalty spot, Bellingham was seen getting in his ear with some gamesmanship. However, it did not matter much since the former Tottenham striker stumbled and sent Andriy Lunin in the wrong direction.
“In the moment, I didn’t know what he said, but I spoke to him after the game, and he said, ‘I know you’re going to go left of the keeper.'” he disclosed in his speaking after the game.
It was a pleasant experience for me since I was able to put it away when the keeper left a little bit earlier than expected. It’s true that I was unaware of what he said when we were on the field. I was aware that he was there, but I was unaware of what he had to say. In any case, I moved to the left.”
In the last minutes of the second half, five minutes before the hour mark, Bayern scored two goals. However, Madrid was awarded a penalty kick late on because of a second error made by defender Kim Min-jae, who was responsible for Vinicius’ first goal. The Brazilian player converted the penalty kick.
Next week, the team coached by Thomas Tuchel will go to the Bernabeu in the hopes of achieving only their third victory away from home against the Spanish powerhouses. Despite the fact that Bayern lost the second leg of the semi-final match in 2011/12, they were able to go to the final by the use of penalties. This was due to the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, and Sergio Ramos all failed to score from the penalty spot.
Bayern has only won two games away at Madrid during regular time, and both victories came in the years 2000 and 2001.
