Since the beginning of the Super League project, Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, has been at odds with Florentino Perez, the supreme manager of Real Madrid. This has been the case ever since the Super League got underway.
Over the course of a considerable amount of time, the head of La Liga has been taking digs at odds Perez. Because of their dispute about the centralization of media rights for La Liga teams, the two individuals have not met since their disagreement, and the Super League has only helped to increase the divide between them.
During a recent interview with The Guardian, Tebas provided a comprehensive discussion of his relationship with Perez as well as the reasons why he was unable to reach a consensus with the president of Real Madrid. His statements were not at all pleasant and made it very apparent that he did not like them.
During the conversation, he made the following statement regarding Perez: “When somebody wants to break into your house, you are not going to come to a consensus with the person that wants to rob it.”
In continuation of the discussion about the president of Real Madrid, he criticized his ideology of maintaining elite clubs in a distinct category and eliminating any motivation for teams who are ranked below.
“The objective of [Pérez] is to ensure that the largest clubs, those that are the wealthiest and own the most assets, are able to manage football in Europe. “And that the rest are nothing more than vassals, who ought to be content with whatever it is that they are given.”
At long last, he conceded that his conception of football was very unlike to that of Perez, and that this difference was present on both the local and European levels.
There are two models of professional football that are fundamentally different from one another, both in the local arena and in Europe. These are the basic disagreements that I have with Florentino. They are either black or white, and there is no room for ambiguity between them. There is no compromise between them.
