Lucas Vazquez, an experienced full-back, is one of the many players at Real Madrid whose contracts are set to expire at the conclusion of the current season. There are quite a few players whose contracts are set to expire.
Vazquez, who was a product of the club’s development program, made his debut with the first-team setup in 2015 under the direction of Rafael Benitez. Since then, he has grown to become a highly valuable utility player for the Merengues.
Vazquez began his career as a winger, but over the course of the last few seasons, he has transformed himself into a dependable right defender. He now serves as the backup to Dani Carvajal, who is the front-runner for the starting position.
Although the 32-year-old player is now in the last year of his contract with Real Madrid, there is some ambiguity over his continued employment at the club. Juventus is said to be interested in the player.
It seems expected that Lucas Vazquez will remain for a another year.
However, according to Jose Felix Diaz of MARCA, Lucas Vazquez is expected to continue playing for serious Madrid for another season, and a one-year contract extension seems to be a serious possibility.
In the early stages of the current season, Vazquez had not been playing as much as he normally would have since Dani Carvajal was in such excellent form. On the other hand, in late 2023, his fellow countryman suffered an injury that offered up opportunities for the winger-turned-defender, and he made the most of those opportunities.
Throughout the course of this season, Vazquez has participated in a total of twenty matches for Real Madrid across all competitions. He has scored one goal and recorded three assists.
Furthermore, it would seem that Real Madrid has been persuaded by his performances to extend his membership at the Santiago Bernabeu for an additional year.
The injury that the 32-year-old sustained earlier this month caused him to miss the four matches that he had been scheduled to play in. On the other hand, he is now back to full fitness and will be sitting on the bench for today’s match against UD Almeria.
While it is probable that Real Madrid could offer Vazquez a new contract, the club is also making preparations for the future. Real Madrid has identified Yan Couto, who is now on loan from Manchester City, as a potential long-term successor to Carvajal in the right-back position.
