Luka Modric, a legendary player for Real Madrid, continues to defy the passage of time by maintaining his excellent level of play while also shattering records.
When it comes to success, a player’s skill and commitment are much more important factors to consider than their age. This is simply shown by Modric’s example.
In point of fact, the midfield maestro will be turning 38 years old today, and he is on track to make history at the club where he has spent almost a decade of his professional career.
Modric is very close to making history.
Now, according to AS, Modric is sitting at a table with other outstanding players who have not allowed the passing of time to diminish their abilities.
Jerzy Dudek, Ferenc Puskás, and Paco Buyo are the only three players who have continued to play for Real Madrid after reaching the age of 38.
The next man in line is Luka Modric, who is getting closer and closer to breaking the record and who has a good chance of being the oldest player to ever suit up for Los Blancos by the time the current season comes to a close.
Puskas is the current holder of the record for the oldest player to appear for Real Madrid, having done so at the age of 38 years and 234 days.
Buyo is the second-oldest person in the group at 38 years and 63 days, whereas Dudek is just four days younger than Buyo.
beginning on matchday 13, when Real Madrid played Valencia, and beginning on matchday 14, when Real Madrid faced Cadiz, Modric would pass Dudek and Buyo’s records, respectively.
After that, taking on Puskas will be the last obstacle. In order for this record to be broken by Modric, he will need to take part in one of the remaining five games of the current La Liga season.
Modric not looking to slow down
Even though Modric turned 38 years old today, there is no indication that his desire is diminishing in any way.
In a recent interview, he mentioned his diminished position at Real Madrid so far in this season and made the following statement about it:
“No one is content when they are eliminated from the competition. After everything that has transpired in my career, where it’s possible that I have never sat on the bench for three games in a row, I found that emotion to be particularly peculiar. It won’t bring me down or lead me to lose ground in any way.
“I also continue to be absolutely certain that I can still play at the level that Real Madrid requires me to.”
Even though it is obvious that Modric is entering the end years of his career, he has said that he wants to continue competing at the highest level possible.
“Even though we are aware that the conclusion of the narrative is drawing closer, we do not give up. That’s to be expected,” he went on to say.
