As reported earlier today, Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah has emerged as a target for Real Madrid amidst an injury crisis in their defensive unit.
The German international’s current contract with the Bundesliga champions expires at the end of the season and he is primed to leave the club.
It is no secret that Tah was a serious target for Bayern Munich last summer but the move collapsed due to Die Werkself’s asking price.
Bayern still keen on Tah
However, Tah’s agent Pini Zahavi has confirmed that Bayern Munich remain interested in signing the defender and are in with an excellent chance to acquire his services.
In an interview a few days ago with Die Welt (h/t AS), Zahavi revealed that the player will leave the German club, with Bayern as the main option.
“The idea was for Tah to go to Bayern, the club wanted to sign him very badly. We would have liked to take part of the transfer proceeds to Leverkusen,” Zahavi said.
“Unfortunately, Leverkusen asked for too much. He will go to a big club next summer, Bayern still have an excellent chance of signing him. He will go to a big club next summer,” he added.
Whether Real Madrid’s entry into the picture changes things remains to be seen, although it is unclear if Los Blancos would make a move for him in the January transfer window or in the summer when he becomes a free agent.
It must be noted that Barcelona too have an interest in the German defender and it remains to be seen how things evolve in the coming weeks.
