Jude Bellingham silenced his doubters and ended his 179 day goal drought after scoring a sublime strike against Osasuna during Saturday’s 4-0 win.
The Spanish champions made up for their poor start to the 2024/25 campaign when they delivered a masterclass performance against the Navarre side in the capital. A tremendous hat-trick from Vinicius Junior catapulted Los Blancos to victory, whilst England star Bellingham extended Madrid’s lead during a rollercoaster first-half performance.
Bellingham and Vincius’ performance will have undoubtedly alleviated the growing pressure on manager Carlo Ancelotti – who headed into Saturday’s clash after back-to-back defeats against Barcelona in El Clasico and Milan in the Champions League.
The former Borussia Dortmund star netted his first goal of the 2024/25 season after failing to score in any of Madrid’s previous 16 games. After recovering from a muscle injury earlier in the campaign, Bellingham has featured in 12 fixtures for his club, whilst scoring just once so far for England also.
Before Saturday’s victory over Osasuna, Bellingham had not scored since Madrid’s 5-0 win over Alaves in May.
Madrid’s success sees them edge closer to current league leaders Barcelona – who sit atop the La Liga table on 33 points. Barca have the chance to extend their lead when they face Real Sociedad on Sunday, continuing their dominant start to life under Hansi Flick.
