Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior is the clear frontrunner for this year’s Ballon d’Or, and it is easy to see why.
In the 2023-24 season, the Brazilian sensation lit up Europe, delivering 26 goals and 12 assists as he led Real Madrid to victories in the Champions League, La Liga, and Supercopa de Espana.
His Champions League heroics, especially in the semi-final against Bayern Munich and the final where he netted Madrid’s second goal against Borussia Dortmund, were nothing short of sensational.
Vinicius receives blessing from Neymar
With the Ballon d’Or ceremony to be held on Monday, Vinicius has received blessings from former Barcelona superstar Neymar.
Currently playing in Saudi Arabia, Neymar extended his support to his compatriot, saying, “Hello, Vini! I’m here in Saudi. I’m rooting for you, the Golden Ball! Best of luck!”
Neymar’s heartfelt message to Vinicius comes at a time when the Brazilian national team is going through a tough time, with many criticising the Real Madrid winger for his performances with the national team.
Many have even called for the return of Neymar, who had been struggling with injuries over the past year. But with even Neymar backing Vinicius, it should send out a good message to fans.
Should Vinicius win the Ballon d’Or on Monday, he would become only the fifth Brazilian player in history to achieve the feat, following Kaka, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and Rivaldo.
Interestingly, all of these players have either played for Real Madrid or Barcelona, with Ronaldo notably playing for both clubs.
