Luka Modric took some time to reflect on Real Madrid’s recent match against Espanyol during an interview on Real Madrid TV (h/t Mundo Deportivo). His insights highlighted the team’s performance, their current form, and the contributions of key players.
To begin with, Modric expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall display, particularly in the second half of the match. He acknowledged that while they faced challenges in scoring during the first half, the team managed to create numerous opportunities.
“We played a good game, especially in the second half. We struggled to score in the first half, but we created many chances. Today we were very good with and without the ball. This game will give us confidence to continue improving,” said the club captain.
Analyzing the match in detail, Modric noted that the team’s performance was commendable from start to finish. He recognised that while the first half was somewhat challenging in terms of finding the back of the net, the overall gameplay was strong.
“The team played very well and we had a great game from start to finish. In the first half we had a bit of trouble finding the goal, but we played very well.
“But physicality and quality are key against teams that sit back. They scored first, but we didn’t let ourselves down and we kept playing,” he noted.
Individual mentions
One impressive statistic that Modric brought to light was the team’s remarkable run of 38 days without a defeat. He explained that this achievement reflects the character, quality, and commitment displayed by the squad.
“It says a lot not to lose matches for so many days, but we have to keep going. This is due to the character, quality and commitment of the team. In addition, everyone is prepared when it is their turn to play; those are the keys.”
When discussing the contributions of standout players like Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., and Rodrygo, Modric noted their world-class abilities.
He expressed happiness in having these talented players as part of the team, acknowledging that while they are performing admirably, there is still room for further improvement.
“They are world-class players and we are happy to have them in the team. They are doing well, but we can improve and this match can give us all confidence,” explained Modric.
On a personal note, Modric shared his feelings about playing the full 90 minutes. He expressed his contentment, stating that he felt both physically and mentally fit. His positive outlook reinforces the notion that he remains a crucial player for the team as they navigate the season.
“I am very happy to play 90 minutes. I feel very good physically and mentally,” concluded the captain.
