When Toni Kroos hung his boots from the German national team in July 2021, the world went into a state of shock. Many labelled his decision premature, for he was barely 31 years of age at the time.
As the years rolled on, the maestro continued to produce standout performances for Real Madrid in midfield and is still amongst the best in the business two years later.
Rumours re-ignite
As revealed earlier this week, news of Kroos’ potential return to the international stage has taken the world by storm. It is still far from materialising, but the German National Team are strongly pushing in favour of his return.
Kroos’ compatriot and Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger recently admitted that he was pestering the midfield star to consider a return.
Now, as per reports from DAZN via Mundo Deportivo, Kroos has addressed the elephant in the room.
“Antonio actually asked. I had to think for a long time, he caught me with my foot changed because I didn’t have that thought,” he said, admitting that there was truth to the defender’s words.
His next phrase was vital, for in the process, he admitted that a return was not ruled out.
“It made me think and give him an answer that I can’t give today.“
The ideal swansong
Kroos called it time with Germany in 2021, and understandably so, for he wished to prioritise his club career and fitness over adjusting to the hectic calendar.
After all, he has won the World Cup with Die Mannschaft and nothing really tops that achievement.
A return to the national team at this point, however, could appeal to the star. After all, the UEFA Euro 2024 will be held in Germany and to win the title in his homeland would be the perfect swansong.
