With Dani Carvajal suffering a recent knee injury, Real Madrid could find themselves active in the January transfer window. Here are 3 potential replacements.
Unfortunately, Dani Carvajal was dealt an injury blow in last weekend’s La Liga fixture against Villarreal. Now, Real Madrid risk losing him for the rest of the season.
As it stands, Lucas Vazquez is due to replace Dani Carvajal in the starting lineup. The Spanish full-back is experienced at this level and he has put in many great performances in a Real Madrid jersey.
However, Carlo Ancelotti is aware that Lucas Vazquez is now the last remaining right-back available to Real Madrid. Touch wood it never happens, but all it takes is one Vazquez injury and the right-back slot would be in jeopardy.
Here are 3 right-backs Real Madrid could sign to replace Dani Carvajal.
3 right-backs Real Madrid could sign to replace Dani Carvajal
1. Trent Alexander-Arnold
The most obvious option for Real Madrid is to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Real Madrid are known admirers of Trent Alexander-Arnold. He is believed to be the long-term successor in Dani Carvajal’s position.
As it stands, the plan seems to be signing Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer of 2025. This is when his Liverpool contract expires. However, the Dani Carvajal injury might just inspire Real Madrid to bring that date forward. The only difference is, Trent would come at a cost in January.
2. Pedro Porro
Sticking within the realm of the Premier League, another player who Real Madrid are currently interested in signing is Pedro Porro. The Tottenham full-back is believed to cost around €65 million.
Pedro Porro has endured a thrilling Premier League breakthrough under Ange Postecoglou. The Aussie boss isn’t the most popular figure in North London but Porro is certainly one player who has benefitted under his tutelage.
This is a transfer which just seems to make sense. Pedro Porro would not look out of place in a Real Madrid jersey.
3. Adapt to a new system
This is the least awe-envoking option for Real Madrid fans. After all, signing new players is always nice, even if it’s at the expense of others.
However, you cannot pull the wool over Real Madrid fans’ eyes. They know better than most that in the last few seasons, Real Madrid have been frugal with their spending.
Therefore, it is very much an option that Real Madrid will sign nobody to replace Dani Carvajal. Instead, they may alter their system or even move a few players out of position.
