Real Madrid have some big plans for the summer transfer window. Carlo Ancelotti would like to bring in some world-class players to continue on from this season’s great dominance. Florentino Perez will, in no doubt, grant those wishes.
However, some players may need to be moved on to make room in the squad. With that said, here are three Real Madrid players on thin ice before the summer transfer window…
3 Real Madrid players on thin ice before the summer transfer window
1. Dani Ceballos
Dani Ceballos has until 2027 remaining on his current Real Madrid deal. However, these last few months may be his final months at the Bernabeu.
The Spaniard has always shown great determination and he’s understood the weight of the badge. However, he has been surplus to requirements for quite some time, so he has to prove himself between now and the end of the season if he wants to remain a Real Madrid player.
Potential avenues for Dani Ceballos are limited. He proved in his loan spell to Premier League side Arsenal that he isn’t capable of meeting his best potential in England. Therefore, if he does seek a move in the summer, joining a La Liga club would be better for his confidence.
2. Nacho Fernandez
It’s sad to say that Nacho Fernandez is walking a thin tightrope. After all, he is a club legend and the captain. Not many embody the club spirit as much as Nacho does, so it will be sad to see him go but unfortunately, it looks like that’s his destination.
Nacho is one of the Real Madrid players with contracts expiring in 2024 but in truth, the club or the player will be in no rush to extend his current stay.
Nacho has had a good run-out in the starting eleven this season. However, if the squad remained fully fit, he’d be the first to admit that those minutes would be a lot less. Currently, Nacho has 33 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid this season, starting 23 of them.
Nacho will go down as a club legend, sharing many great moments with the club including five Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles.
3. Ferland Mendy
The best player on this list, by a country mile. However, there is no denying that Ferland Mendy is treading on thin ice between now and the end of the season.
For those who aren’t aware, Real Madrid are linked with a move for Alphonso Davies in the summer transfer window. It goes without saying that Davies is one of the best full-backs in the world, so he won’t be arriving to sit on the bench.
Mendy is capable of putting up a fight to stay in the starting eleven and he’s certainly had a good season this time out. However, signing Davies does render him in danger.
With that being said, Mendy should use this as motivation to finish the season strong. There are some important games coming up, so more chances for Mendy to build up his credentials.
So far this season, Mendy has started 17 La Liga matches, impressing in a lot of them. He is yet to score a goal outside of the Supercopa this campaign but this isn’t what he’s in the squad to do, anyway.
