After a slow start to the season, Brahim Diaz has been growing in stature at Real Madrid in recent months.
The 24-year-old Spanish attacking midfielder returned to the club in the summer after a three-year loan stint at AC Milan but found game-time extremely hard to come by.
However, an injury to Vinicius Jr. came as a blessing in disguise for the former Manchester City ace, who got an extended run in the team in the past couple of months and he made the most of it.
Diaz has racked up a total of six goals and three assists in all competitions this term, with a large majority of his goal contributions coming since December.
In fact, the versatile attacking midfielder was even named Real Madrid’s Player of the Month for December 2023 as well.
Diaz happy with current form
Now, speaking to the club’s official media channel, Diaz reflected on his purple patch, admitting that he was going through a great spell, while also insisting that he can get even better.
“I’m in a great moment and we have to keep it up. I know the player I am and I know I can still give much more. I’m happy with what I’m doing, but I’ll be happier with what I’m going to do,” he said.
Crediting the dressing room atmosphere for his success, Diaz added: “We have an incredible dressing room, where we help each other and we are a family. We support the one who needs support and give love to the one who needs it. It’s unique.
“I am very grateful for the dressing room we have and for how easy it is to be with these great teammates, with these stars, in this great club and the love I receive every day.”
On performance vs Atletico Madrid
Brahim was on target for Real Madrid last night as well, as they beat Atletico Madrid 5-3 in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final.
Discussing his goal, which he fired into an open net from a distance, Diaz said: “It’s a throw-in. They’re all up top and I see that I can score. I’m a quick player and I run towards the ball. I see that I can win the race, I win it and I finish very well.
“To finish the way I did makes it even more incredible. It wasn’t easy because I move at quite a high speed, but at that moment I made it easy.”
The Real Madrid attacking midfielder also praised his teammate Joselu who not only set up Diaz’s goal, but also scored one himself last night.
“He sees that I’m going into space and he puts it where he has to put it. Joselu is an incredible player, a good person and yesterday he scored a goal and made an assist. Not bad,” he remarked.
On his physical condition
Earlier today, reports emerged claiming that Brahim Diaz’s shoulder is in very bad condition and he was forcing himself to play through the pain barrier.
However, the 24-year-old insisted that he was in fine shape physically, saying: “I’m very well and physically we are incredibly well, and ready for every minute. That’s very important and it shows that we are all well trained, very well prepared, physically and mentally.”
“We work a lot on our physical condition. With what happened to my shoulder, I’ve been able to work even more on my upper body. We have a very good staff, who tell you what you have to do and indicate what is best for each of us,” he further stated.
Finally, reflecting on how his stint at Real Madrid was going after his return, Diaz insisted: “I come from great seasons at a great club. I am more experienced and eager, hungry to win titles and give my best for the best club in the world.”
