Riddled with an array of injuries, Real Madrid have been largely seeking solace in the scoring prowess of Jude Bellingham this season.
The Englishman has exceeded all expectations, with 20 goal contributions already this season and a late assist against Union Berlin last night.
Bellingham set to replace Modric from the spot
Now, reports from AS (h/t Madrid Zone) have come out to claim that Bellingham is set to become Real Madrid’s main penalty-taker going forward.
Following yesterday night’s miss from Luka Modric in the closing moments of the first half, all four of the Merengues‘ penalties this season, including the pre-season, have been missed.
In spite of his immense calibre, Modric failed to convert from the spot against Union Berlin, and as a result, the club are considering assigning penalty duties to Jude Bellingham, a man familiar with embracing the back of the net.
Earlier this season, Rodrygo failed to strike the back of the net from the spot against Celta Vigo after an error in communication between him and Modric.
These lapses from the spot have been a recurring theme and thus Bellingham is expected to take on the responsibility from now on.
The recently crowned Golden Boy winner has taken two penalties previously in his career for Borussia Dortmund, having scored both times and thus maintaining a 100% success rate.
Given the 20-year-old’s incredible scoring record this season as well as his significance to Real Madrid, Bellingham is being sought after to put an end to the club’s woes.
