Reportedly, there are a number of Premier League clubs lining up to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid in the summer. It is believed that Real Madrid would be open to offers starting at £85m, a reasonable price for a player of his quality.
Rodrygo has been with the Real Madrid first team since 2019, where he has developed into an excellent player. However, with Kylian Mbappe expected to join in the summer, there is a feeling that Rodrygo may become surplus to requirements. Therefore, him leaving the club would make sense to get game time, as sad as it would be for fans.
2 winners and 1 loser from Real Madrid selling Rodrygo this summer
If it were to happen, here are 2 winners and 1 loser from Real Madrid selling Rodrygo…
1. Vinicius Junior (loser)
Usually, when two similar players compete for the same position, it can lead to a toxic environment. This has never been the case for Vini and Rodrygo, who work together harmoniously and are constantly seen spurring each other on to achieve.
As two countrymen, they have formed a great relationship at the Bernabeu. Therefore, Vinicius Junior would be missing out on playing alongside his friend if Real Madrid do sell Rodrygo.
2. Endrick (winner)
Confirmed arrival Endrick will already be at a disadvantage with Kylian Mbappe expected to join this summer. Therefore, the Brazilian could benefit from Rodrygo being sold.
Imagine if Endrick arrives with Rodrygo still at the club. He would essentially be fourth choice for the striker position.
Of course, Carlo Ancelotti has his own development plan for the young Brazilian, so he is tipped to succeed at Real Madrid either way. That aside, it doesn’t make as much sense to have four world-class and potentially world-class players battling for the same position.
Endrick has also played as a right-midfielder for Palmeiras this season. While it remains to be seen what Don Carlo’s plan is for him, this is certainly an interesting preview for Real Madrid fans.
3. Rodrygo (winner)
Look, it will not be nice to see Rodyrgo leave the club. He is a fan favourite and understandably so.
However, Rodrygo would not leave Real Madrid with any bitter feeling, hopefully. Should the transfer be confirmed before the end of the season, he would almost certainly leave with a standing ovation, after his best season in a Real Madrid shirt.
The nature of this sport is that players come and players go. Ageing at 23 years old, Rodrygo is only going to get better. He cannot afford to jeopardise his development by rotting away on the bench, limited to substitute appearances.
Nobody is denying that Rodrygo can fight for his place – He’d put up a great fight as well. However, competing with Vini Jr AND Kylian Mbappe is a fight which could only be won by the best of the best. It’s a nice problem to have for everybody except Rodrygo.
It would be great to see the Brazilian go and tear apart the Premier League.
